Victoria Road. ..what's it like ?

Hi everyoneWe are considering a move over to the Alexandra Park area and have looked at a couple of properties in Victoria Road and would really appreciate honest pros and cons about the road in particular and area in general . I have lived in Harringay most of my life but don't know so much about this part of town.Any insights would be very much welcomed. Oh yeah we have two sons under 10Best Fiona

  • We have lived here for 16 years and like the area and the street very much. It is very friendly and very neighbourly. Neighbours look out for each other e.g. taking in parcels, reciprocal cat-feeding. There are lots of families with children at the very good local schools (Rhodes Avenue and A.P). It is a quiet road generally and parking is usually OK. A small con is that in snowy/icy weather it is one of the last streets to become clear and is often overlooked by the council's gritting lorry. Can be very hazardous walking on both road and pavements.

    • Thanks very much for your feedback
    • Re: Clare's mention of gritting - a few years ago when we had deep snow for several days, I suggested to some neighbours that we get a pavement gritter - not cheap, but the pavements in Alexandra Park Road and elsewhere in this neighbourhood were lethal!  We certainly haven't had snow for some time, but ice is just as bad - perhaps now we have a neighbourhood website we could do a bit of crowdfunding for one, or something similar?

  • Forgot to mention we have a wonderful milkman (Palace Dairies) who serves the Alexandra Park area and is brilliantly reliable. So much to say...

    • Not had a milkman for years.. sounds very quaint
  • I lived in Victoria road for a while , I now live up the road on Alexandra park road /grasmere road - Victoria road and thuan side of muswell hill Is great - good sense of community, great schools and if you have kids load of stuff for them to do - ive lived in Tottenham and Finsbury Park but ally pally/ muswell hill feels
Like home in a way they never did - also the parade of shops is great and getting better. Moving here was the best thing we did as a family
    • Trevor thank you so much for your comments. ...you guys are all proving that this could be a good move, cheers
  • Hi Susie thank you so much for your response . I was struck that you dont have a car and was reassured about the transport links the overground station is really close by isnt? The area I current live in is very family focused too and that would be something I would miss, but it sounds we as though Victoria Road has a similar vibe . Thank you once again for taking the time to respond.

    Best wishes

    Fiona
    • Yes, the overground station is 5-10mins walk, tube 15-20mins walk (Wood Green and Bounds Green), and the 184 bus also goes to all stations!

    • Thanks Annabel didn't realise that the bus stopped at the stations that is handy ....my hubbie is looking a couple if places up there tomorrow fingers crossed he will like them as much as I did
