What to do when self-isolating? Try an Online Writing Course!

Join our online courses and get writing!

Social distancing and self-isolation are not incompatible with writing. Shakespeare himself is rumoured to have written King Lear while quarantined.  It can be helpful to write in challenging times and to be part of a friendly group, focusing on your writing or engaging in a new creative writing course.

Collage Writing Room’s Summer 2020 programme is set to run online and our tutors are busily getting used to delivering courses via Zoom video link up. We will give you lots of help setting this up. It is free for you to use. Your course is only a few clicks away! You don't have to be seen on screen if you are camera shy, and if you don't fancy tidying the house, we can show you how to choose a neutral backdrop! If you don't want to join the video side, tutors can send you the exercises/reading lists/feedback via email.

Our next courses to run are Life Writing & Memoir and Inspire Your Writing. Both courses start in April - details below or click here for the whole summer programme: http://haringeyliteraturelive.com/summer-courses/

‘You must write a memoir as if you’re writing a novel, you have to give it a shape.’ Blake Morrison.

Giovanna Iozzi returns for another term of her successful life writing course. Over 6 weeks, we will explore how to shape and structure our writing in a compelling and novelistic way. We will learn ways to hook our readers into our story, keep them turning the pages, charm and alarm them with our characters and reveal fascinating, relatable truths about our lives. We will investigate what is meant by a strong voice in memoir and understand how stylistic devices like dialogue, scene building, setting description, and suspense creates a vivid world the reader can disappear inside. As well as reading extracts from published memoirists, nominated students will have the chance to workshop extracts of their writing each week. All levels welcome.
