184 bus

Can someone tell me why, if the 184 does not run through the Palace grounds, it is diverted when the Palace is staging an event?

Hi Henry, it is diverted so as not to get in the way of the huge crowds thronging the road bridge and Buckingham Road for 1.5 hours or so after the event finishes. You might think that it would be useful for it to transport some of the crowds elsewhere (it's not as if they are rowdy), but there you are ...

  Yes Annabel, but isn't the bus also diverted BEFORE the events and in some cases way after the crowds have dispersed...like the day after ?

  I haven't heard of that - does sound extreme!
  
  The fireworks are on two evenings, Friday and Saturday, and so the diversions are as follows:
  
  Friday 31 October [9-10.30 pm] and Saturday 1 November [8-9.30pm] to facilitate visitors leaving the event.

  TFL have sometimes diverted the buses on the previous day, all day, without giving any notice on the bus stops affected.
  
  If they stick to the times you give then that seems appropriate and not a great inconvenience. Fingers crossed.
