Albert Road Rec to be renamed OR Tambo Rec

Oliver Tambo (known to his friends as OR) lived for nearly 30 years in exile in Alexandra Park Road N10, and his wife worked for Camden as a social worker. The Council agreed last week to rename the park as OR Tambo Rec, after just over half the respondents to a consultation favoured this. The idea was apparently first floated by the Friends of Albert Road Recreation Ground.

His daughter Thembi Tambo (pictured left with the leader of Haringey Council) is High Commissioner for South Africa, and grew up in Al Pk Rd N10 (picture from Ham&High).
