Could I suggest that anyone living within this new proposed LTN takes a look at this video about what has happened to the shopkeepers on Myddleton Road?
Their LTN was imposed on August 15th and the little film speaks for itself. Rather than enhancing local shopping as the council would have you believe, the LTN looks like it is killing it.

Given the depth of the traders' distress at the consequences, it's not possible to think that they didn't communicate their forecasts of those consequences to the council, which then ploughed on regardless.
So having spent really large amounts with one hand in finally rescuing and then regenerating Myddleton Road, so that it's recognised by other boroughs as an outstanding model, Haringey uses its other hand to pull its own rug out from under the very traders who have created that success. Yes, there is a six month assessment, but, listening to the despair of some of these people, how many are going to be around to contribute to it?
Did anyone see the admission from DfT that the figures for traffic use on minor roads, on which it based the LTN model, were hopelessly inaccurate - inaccurate by several 10s of%age points?
Hi - iwould make sure that you have as much of a say in where the filters are placed as you can. That means *all*parts of the community. LTN is a great idea that has been implemented phenomenonally badly especially near Myddleton Rd. The council should consider canvassing people and not sending out at 16 page 'consultation' document that no one understood. It should also perhaps implement it bit by bit so that effects are known. And then the biggie- install pollution monitors - no only in the residential areas but at key places along the roads they hope to divert the traffic on to. There are a lot of schools where we are and there's been no communication that pollution will be monitored.
The locations of filters are certainly hugely important! They can however be moved easily, and a major reason for having an LTN trial for a few months is to check out how a particular arrangement of filters works on the ground, as it were, with residents feeding back their experiences. You can comment on the placing of filters by emailing traffic.orders@haringey.gov.uk , according to the Bounds Green LTN leaflet . Obviously a key issue for the Council to review!
Air quality is one of the key reasons for introducing LTNs, and the Council are indeed monitoring it (as well as levels of traffic), both inside LTNs and on boundary roads: see LTNs FAQ no.14 here
Just watched the video. I feel sorry for the traders of Myddleton Road....
I don't think this is really relevant to anything that might happen in the Palace Gates area if an LTN is put in here. Myddleton Road is a pretty substantial shopping street with a lot of shops and other businesses which do much more than service the local community. It's right at the centre of the LTN and some way from the through-roads (Bounds Green Road, Green Lanes).
Palace Gates/Crescent shops are right on the edge of what seems likely to be proposed as a restricted traffic area, and only some would be within its boundary. The outcome would depend on just where the filters are placed - they don't have to be at the actual boundary of the designated area. The shops are also right at the junction with what look likely to remain through-roads. (A cycle lane is apparently proposed for Alexandra Park Road/Palace Gates Road, which suggests they will remain open to through motor-traffic, and Bedford Road is not involved).
The Residents' Association have done a survey of local shops here (not finished - due to covid) and found that they thought few customers were coming by car. A local catering establishment also told me exactly the same thing when I ate there recently.
What streets would be forced to take the traffic unable to access Palace Gates ?
Every LTN seems to create MORE traffic somewhere else ..
The congestion from the Junction with Colney Hatch Lane and Bounds Green, along Alexandra Park Rd is a case in point . It is often impossible to turn RIGHT , or LEFT from Colney Hatch Lane into APR at times, although the traffic lights are a HUGE impovement on the situation some time ago.
I know it is policy to make car drivers into pariahs . . but some journeys are untenable by bike .and some of us are too old to cycle now .
Buses do not serve us to get to Hampstead Heath for example, or to the Royal Free . It is A SHAME councillors and residents do not CAMPAIGN as resolutely for better BUS ROUTES to avoid congestion in term time when parents collect children from many school in Highgate and Hampstead . . . .school buses would help . .but TFL seems oblivious to organising a scheme .
Perhaps they would not make the same money as they do from PCN'S in LTN'S ????
