Haringey Council has allocated £550,000 to enhance the libraries of Alexandra Park, Muswell Hill, St Ann’s, Coombes Croft, Stroud Green & Harringay and Highgate. Following engagement with the Friends or Libraries and site condition surveys in the past months, improvement plans for each library are now avaiable for public viewing at each library from Tuesday 4th June to Saturday 29th June. There will also be two drop-in sessions  for resident to find out more about the plans and speak to the project team.

The dates for the drop in sessions for Alexandra Park Library are:

Saturday 8th June 12:30 to 14:30

Monday 10th June 15:00 to 17:00

There will  be feedback boxes at each library to leave comments or questions.

I have surgery at the library on Saturady so will attend the Saturday PM drop in session. If you are unable to attend and want us to ask questions or send feedback please get in touch or comment through the Neighburs forum.

  • Thank you Alessandra - this is very helpful to know.

    • As I mentioned I have been to the Library today for the first drop-in session:

Funding is available only for refurbishing the ground floor. The bigger change is the relocation of the children area to the end of the library, where now the computers are. This area could also be used for presentation and public meetings when not used by children.

There are two possible layout options and the main difference between the two is where the computers will be moved. I am attaching a picture of the two options.

There is a provision in the plans for a lift to the upper floor, but this only if funding will become available in the future.

The building is listed, and the wooden bookcases will stay (hurrah!!), the rest of the furniture and carpet will be renewed. A new staircase to allow disabled access to the upper floor is also in the plan.

I would encourage as many of you as possible to have a look and provide comments on the two options. The Library Service is keen to hear, either in person or through the comment box, about what you would like to see or think is missing in the two options :

The next drop in session to ask questions directly to the program manager is Monday from 3 to 5pm.

Here is the link to the Haringey website that has now a reference to the consultation :
