I have reproduced the text of a briefing that I have received from Network Rail about the closed gate:
'The decision to close the gate was made following an incident where a passenger tripped over the threshold between the two footbridges. As I’m sure you are aware, the station is managed by Great Northern (part of the Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) company), but we have been working with them to identify options for reducing the risk at this site. This is not as simple as it might appear; the fact that the two footbridges are of differing heights, with a gap between them, and that the bridges run close to electrified lines that would need to be isolated before work could take place, will need to be taken into consideration. We have now presented several options to GTR and are waiting to hear how they would like to proceed. The decision as to which option to select will, of course, determine how long the gate stays shut for.
As the company responsible for managing the station, you may also wish to contact GTR directly to discuss your concerns.'
