It’s AJ, local resident and one of your Labour Council Candidate.

Last year, Melanie my running mate and I, spoke to many of you at your doorsteps regarding the proposed bus lanes. Several of you also sent us emails with valid concerns about the proposal.

We agreed with you that the proposed bus lane isn’t the best solution to the problem that exists on Durnsford/Alexandra Park/Albert Roads, because of the negative impacts it’ll have on residents and local businesses. Including but not limited to the impact of the loss of parking spaces on residents who live along the B106 and the side roads too, impact of the reduction in kerb side spaces needed for deliveries, carers, disabled users, builders and local businesses and schools, as well as the likelihood of worsening the air quality as traffics diverts from the already congested N. Circular et cetera.

Based on the above, we then set out distributing leaflets to encourage residents to participate in the public consultation, I posted that leaflet here in November 2025 (reattached to this message).

We also held meetings with the council leadership to bring your many valid concerns to their attention and get assurances from them that the views of residents will be respected and that residents must be given the opportunity to shape decisions that affects their daily lives.

We are glad to learn that many of you participated in the public consultation, and made your concerns loud and clear. The council have listened and have now shelved this proposal.

We must now ensure that residents are involved from the earliest stages and given the opportunity to shape decisions that impacts on their lives including any solution to the issues on the aforementioned roads.

Many thanks to those of you who spoke to us, emailed us and also campaigned with us and also in your various groups.

Best wishes,

AJ.
