... and a crowd of carollers gathered on the Triangle to prove it. Fuelled by mulled wine, they ding-donged merrily on high, Wenceslas'd away and on a midnight clear (though it was only 7.30) sang glorious songs of old under the fairy-lit tree. But for the neon shop signs encircling them, it was a scene from days gone by.
