Due to the high levels of antisocial behavior, illegal parking and dangerous driving on site since lockdown in agreement between the Alexandra Palace Trust Haringey Council, the Police, TfL) it has been decided to cose the Alexandra Palace Way Parking Bays day and night and close the road at night.

These measures will cost the Trust an initial £60,000 and will be in place for the foreseeable future. Please support the Trust with donations as you can.

Further information is provided in a blog post from our CEO, Louise Stewart https://www.alexandrapalace.com/about-us/blog/

Key information

  • The road closures will commence on Tuesday 2nd June 2020.
  • The hours of closure will be 8pm-5am
  • The W3 bus will be diverted during these hours
  • Cars parked in the Alexandra Palace Way parking bays need to be removed by 9am on Tuesday 2nd June. Otherwise they will be towed.

Cars in the bays currently will be flyered over the next few days (see attached). This is the same approach we take before closing the bays for events.

  • Thank you for the notification Annabel, have asked the MET ward team, although I have seen tweets from last night in Bedford Road so they may be aware too

    • Thank you, Alessandra!

    • Hi

just for awareness there was quite a lot of "unusual" activity and quite a police presence in The Avenue, Dukes Avenue, Lansdowne Road area yesterday (Friday) evening

Is this part of the same thing or was there some specific incident going on?

      thanks

      John Clarke

    • There have been reports of ASB at the Park entrance corner The Avenue / Duke's Avenue in the past weeks and Cllrs and residents have asked MET and Haringey ASB Team to intervene so I think this is why. Also I have not heard of any specific event. There have been reports of similar ASB in Reston Rd entrance on the other side of the Park so it looks like the activities previously taking place in the Park has been displaced around it

  • Thank you for the notification Annabel, have asked the MET ward team, although I have seen tweets from last night in Bedford Road so they may be aware too

  • We are now getting racing motorbikes and cruising drug dealers (probably) in Alexandra Park Road - presumably coming here now that Alexandra Palace Way is closed at night.

  • Fully support this action - thanks very much!

    A couple of comments.

8pm seems a little late to be closing the road. From what I can hear out of my window the racers are there during the early evening from 5 onwards.

Also, is a more permanent change to allow buses and cycles only something that could be considered?

    Thanks again

    • Dear John, Thanks for these inputs. I woudl imagine that any measures you suggest would impact the viability of the area and would need to be taken in coordination with several parties but I will ask  if there is scope. When the Trust consulted about the parking charges we suggested to both Alexandra Palace and Haringey that considering the implications iour prefreerd approach, also shared by those that contacted us, was to look at the whole area from a traffic point of view so this could be reiterated again.

    • Thaks for the reply Alessandra. It will be interesting to see how this progresses given the laudable statements made recently about encouraging active transport.

    • Dear John, I have raised this with the AP Trust and they have confirmed that closing the road complete;y not on;y woudl have costly implication to consider but also will need to be decided in partnership with police and local authority. I have mentioned the timimg, and the request to close the road earlier, adn this has also been suggested by othres. There have also been request to close some of the gate entrances earlier due to antisocial behaviuor and the Reston Field gate will now close at 10pm . The police has also informed us of possible issues at the gate at the top of The Avenue so I am waiting to hear if there will be any follow-up
