Good Morning Neighbours,

Some residents in Clyde Road asked me about the unused Car Club parking bay in Clyde Road. I have contacted the council's Transport & Travel Team, and they have advised that residents' observations are understandable given that the bay has seen limited use in recent months. This follows the withdrawal of Zipcar from the UK market, which has affected a number of Car Club locations across the borough.

  1. Current status of the bay
The bay remains designated as a Car Club bay under the current Traffic Management Order (TMO).
  2. Status of the Car Club agreement
Following the exit of Zipcar from the UK, the Council has been exploring alternative arrangements and is currently in discussions with several Car Club operators regarding future service provision within the borough.
  3. Potential return to residents' parking
At this stage, there are no plans to remove the Car Club designation for the bay. The Council is progressing proposals for a new Car Club trial, anticipated to run for 24 months, and the existing Car Club infrastructure and bays are likely to form part of that trial arrangement.
  4. Timescales and next steps
We expect to progress the trial scheme in the coming months. Once the trial is established, officers will monitor uptake and utilisation across the network, including this location. The future status of individual bays will be reviewed as part of that assessment.

Whilst the bay may currently appear underutilised, retaining the designation at this stage will provide flexibility for the introduction of a replacement Car Club service and avoid the need for further TMO changes should the bay be required again in the near future.

Transport and Travel will keep the position under review and will consider any necessary amendments following the implementation and evaluation of the trial scheme.

Our neighbours in Wroxham Garden have also been experiencing parking issues, with a van obstructing resident's driveway. A penalty charge notice has now been issued to the owner of the white van blocking the driveway. I also asked officers to revisit the area last week to ensure that the white van is no longer obstructing people's driveways.

Residents can contact the council's enforcement team directly on 020 8489 2102 for immediate enforcement action whenever live illegal parking is taking place.
