I am sure there must be many ex-students of the Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute in this neighbourhood – in recent years it was located conveniently near East Finchley underground station – who enjoyed their time there doing some of the very stimulating arts, crafts, music and other courses. Well, financial troubles have afflicted the Insitute – in particular, consequent on the cost of moving to Kingsbury in Brent – and the Trustees and Friends have become very energised in raising funds to get over this cash-flow problem. They have several suggestions for ways in which people can take part in this campaign (any others you can think of will be warmly received!):
- Come to the concert on 18th June in Hampstead Garden Suburb Free Church, Central Square NW11 –violins, voice and piano. Programme to include music by Bach, Puccini, Mozart, Kreisler, Wieniawski and Sarasate (see poster for more details).
- Promise a service, course or etc. for their Sale of Promises, to be held during the interval at the concert – e.g. offer a session of yoga, or a manicure, or a lesson in playing the tuba …
- Come to the Affordable Art Fair (probably all day on 2nd July, more info. later) – or donate a work of art to it (perhaps something you made/painted while studying at the Institute!).
- Finally, a simple donation to their charity fundraising account would of course be very welcome – details on their website
If you have problems ordering concert tickets online, let me know, and I will get you some tickets in person when I next traipse all the way over to Kingsbury for my pottery course …
