The date for finalising the contract between the North London Waste Authority and the Spanish firm Acciona to build the new, larger, Incinerator at Edmonton has passed and gone, but the process continues, despite ongoing campaigns by many local groups to stop it. Haringey Council have now revoked their previous request to pause and review the process.
But campaigning will continue - with concerns that the incinerator will massively increase air pollution from fine particulate matter, increase carbon emissions, reduce recycling measures, and require extra rubbish to be trucked in from elsewhere becuase it will be too large for north London's needs. Campaigners say that other, better methods of dealing with North London's rubbish are available.
