Extending Yellow lines

Council is planning to take several car spaces out at many junctions for "Traffic Safety".butthey are quiet roads.

This notice relates to the roads towards Muswell Hill. Not sure anyone has noticed.

It isn't relevant (yet) in the triangle but I dont know who to tell. It seems harder to oppose than a CPZ.12752076689?profile=RESIZE_710x

  • Many thanks for this info, Ralph! I did a bit of exploration and found this report on the Road Danger Reduction Action Plan presented to the LBH Cabinet in March 2022. It is Haringey's response to the Mayor's Vision Zero plan - to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on London's roads to zero by 2041. Over 3/4 of these KSIs in Haringey involve vulnerable road users - pedestrians, cyclists and powered-2-wheelers (motorcycles and scooters). And about 3/4 of those involving vulnerable road users are at junctions (p.8).

The main contributory factors in these collisions resulting in fatalities or serious injuries were 'Failed to look properly' (45%) and 'Poor turn or manoeuvre' (15%), which impact particularly on vulnerable road users (p.12). Pedestrians failing to look properly were cited in 12% of the collisions.

The Council are taking a holistic approach to reducing these incidents - rather than waiting for collisions to happen and then acting, they want to prevent them by reducing the possibility of vehicle drivers making mistakes with serious consequences. Hence their aim to make junctions safer, in part by keeping them:

clear of parking and improv[ing] sight lines, restrict[ing] parking by providing 10m (minimum) of no waiting and no loading restrictions, in line with Rule 243 of the Highway Code (p.21)

This is presumably what is being acted on with regard to the junctions listed in the Public Notice in your image - to improve the sightlines for drivers turning into side roads by removing parking close to the junctions which might obstruct their view - ?
