You can choose to sponsor a Street Tree right outside your house, or sponsor a Celebration Tree in one of Haringey's beautiful parks or recreation grounds.

This is just one of a number of innovative strategies the council is using to to plant more trees in local streets, parks and green spaces, to help reduce air pollution, absorb carbon, improve mental and physical wellbeing for residents and generally make Haringey a nicer place to live. Both they and Living Under One Sun are really good local groups to support if you are able to.

Lucy

Hi all,

Haringey Solidarity Group (HSG) is supporting a Haringey organization – Living Under One Sun (LUOS) – with one of the projects they are currently running.

Knowing there are hundreds of local kids with no access to computer, and watching education happening more and more online, LUOS are trying to get as many laptops as possible, so they/we can give them out to local families who need them.

Obviously this should be something the state does. But although they can find money to furlough millions of us; give grants left, right and centre; and spend billions on contracts to their friends, they seem unable to do a relatively easy thing of making sure children who need computer to study from home have the basic tools to be able to do this. So, ordinary people and groups like LUOS (and HSG) have to step in.

But we don’t want any old laptop, as we need to make sure it’s what local children need. Below is the minimum specifications we need, to make them useful.

We are asking ANYONE who has a laptop sitting around to donate it to this project. If you are in (or near to) Haringey we can collect, but ideally we would love it if you could drop it off to us. LUOS have technical people who will clean up the laptops, do minor repairs, and get them ready for the kids.

If you have a laptop you want to donate, email Tony at the email below. If you work for an organization and they are about to get rid of some laptops, then please ask them if we can have them. As long as they meet the spec below, we will take them all.

Please pass this email on to anyone you know who might be able to help.

To donate email Tony at: woodywood2@blueyonder.co.uk or info@haringey.org.uk

Minimum Specifications

RAM: 8 GB

Hard disk: 250 GB

Operative System: Windows 10

Screen: 14" or bigger.

Webcam.

Processor: Minimum I3

Christmas tree disposal - guidance from Haringey Councilhttps://alexandraparkneighbours.org.uk/forum/christmas-tree-disposal-guidance-from-haringey-council2021-01-03T21:22:35.000Z2021-01-03T21:22:35.000ZAdminhttps://alexandraparkneighbours.org.uk/members/Admin

Useful information from Haringey Council:

Your support through this exhausting journey has been wonderful. There are about to be two key Haringey meetings in quick succession – if you can get to one or both, you know we’ll really appreciate it.

First, it's next week, at 6.30pm on Tuesday 22 January. Second, it's the following week, at 7pm on Thursday 31 January. Both are at Wood Green Civic Centre (N22 8ZW).

We assume that Haringey Cabinet will ignore the advice of its own Regulatory Committee when it meets at 6.30pm on Tuesday 22 January and leave Pinkham Way in the North London Waste Plan (NLWP).

The letter we’ve had detailing the Council’s reasoning for this likely decision is nonsense and will be torn to shreds in any formal examination.

If the Cabinet vote to keep the site in the waste plan, it'll then go before full Council in their meeting at 7pm on Thursday 31 January. We're sure those in opposition to the site staying in the NLWP will have something to say on the night.

To have you in the viewing gallery will be a huge boost.

The doorstep Christmas tree collection service remains the same as last year. All residents, except those living in flats, can put their tree out for free collection from their home until the end of January. Please cut your tree into smaller pieces (maximum length one metre or three feet). If you have signed up for the new garden waste collections, the cut-up tree can go in your new bin. If you have not signed up, please place the tree by your waste bin. The trees will be collected on your usual waste collection day. It is essential that your tree is cut into smaller pieces, otherwise it cannot be collected.

Christmas trees can also be taken to Haringey's Reuse and Recycling Centre in Wood Green - Western Road, N22 6UG
