In addition, it says donations will be used to support those who have arrived in the UK without the support of official relocation or resettlement schemes.

Haringey Welcome, which I volunteer with, is pleased to see the Council publicly refuse to use the divisive language of 'good' and 'bad' refugees. We must support all in need of protection, however they arrive in the country. We were happy to recently put out this joint statement with the Council opposing Hostile Environment legislation.

The Government's proposed Borders Bill, if passed this autumn, will criminalise those arriving by irregular means, such as on small boats across the Channel. Yet the majority have a well founded claim to seek asylum in the UK. Government seeks to detain, deport, and off-shore people arriving irregularly, deny them access to the asylum system, and make it an offence to provide support to them. Refugee resettlement is not a replacement for international protection.

If you agree that this is wrong, please encourage the Council to continue to speak out against the Hostile Environment, including this latest legislation.

Lucy

Haringey Welcome launches Covid-19 Music Fundraiser for Migrant Domestic Workershttps://alexandraparkneighbours.org.uk/forum/haringey-welcome-launches-covid-19-music-fundraiser-for-migrant-d2020-08-01T14:47:15.000Z2020-08-01T14:47:15.000ZLucy Nabijouhttps://alexandraparkneighbours.org.uk/members/LucyNabijou

Hello all,

On 30 July Haringey Welcome launched our latest fundraising campaign, with the world premiere of a specially composed song, Adversity Rhyme. We were very excited to be hosting our first online event. The Crowdfunder aims to raise at least £5,000 for The Voice of Domestic Workers (VoDW), a self-organised group of migrant women.

To find out more, to hear the song/watch the video, and to make a donation, please visit our Crowdfunder page: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/haringeywelcome-covid-19-music-fundraiser

You can also read more about the launch event here: https://haringeywelcome.org/2020/08/01/vodwfundraiser/

If we reach our target £5,000 we have been promised 100% match funding by an anonymous trust. So your help with donations, however small, is very gratefully received. Every penny will go towards support for migrant domestic workers facing destitution during the pandemic.

Many thanks,

Lucy Nabijou, Coordinator, Haringey Welcome
