Arthouse Cinema in Crouch End, our excellent local independent has sent round the following suggestions for film viewing during the general closure of everything. For those not on their mailing list, here are sources they propose (I've edited their message):

Dear Arthouse supporters,

We hope that you are all doing well and staying safe in these difficult times. The Arthouse team appreciates your continued support and we look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible.

We will continue to keep the cinema closed for as long as the government deems it necessary, in order to protect both you and our staff. And we are grateful that we are one of the many businesses that will be supported by the government’s Job Retention Scheme, which will help us pay up to 80% of the salaries of our staff during this crisis.

As cinemas close, the online space is the place to go. Curzon, MUBI and BFI deliver us with those ever so fitting arthouse titles we pride our name on, and so we're more than happy to point your eyes in their direction.

What we should have been screening right now is The Truth, Hirokazu Kore-eda's English debut, and one we were massively looking forward to – Shoplifters is an ArtHouse Crouch End favourite. Thankfully we've been able to enjoy it since Friday as Curzon often release their films into cinemas and on their online platform Curzon Home Cinema: https://www.curzonhomecinema.com/collections/welcome_collection. You get a film free when you sign up.

BFI are offering 14 days free at https://player.bfi.org.uk/subscription. Great historic classics and crtically acclaimed recent productions, with curated playlists of films with a special introduction or notes.

MUBI,https://mubi.com/ a hand-picked selection of films, whether they are cult classics, forgotten masterpieces, or freshly picked cinema from the latest festival around the world. The films of Ingmar Bergman, Charlie Chaplin, Jean-Luc Godard, Albertina Carri, Kleber Mendonça Filho (director of Bacurau) are showing on MUBI right now.  This collection is free for 3 months for Arthouse members, so if you are likely to go to the cinema when it reopens, and would like to support it through the downtime and show appreciation you can join online.
