Haringey Welcome, who I campaign with, were delighted that on Tuesday 16th July Haringey Council announced via a tweet that they will not be sharing the personal data of rough sleepers with Home Office enforcement teams, and will not be complicit with the Hostile Environment.

This is in line with the Council's commitment last November, made after a successful campaign lead by Haringey Welcome, to develop a Welcome Strategy for the borough and to explicitly oppose the Hostile Environment.

Please see our statement about the announcement here.

The following day, Wednesday 17th, saw several more local authorities in London and elsewhere make similar commitments. It's good to see Haringey taking a principled lead!

  • Well done Haringey Welcome!  It shows how sustained, insistent negotiating with the Council can be successful. Amazing that the Council are first on this issue ...
