Dear all - I don't remember if here or on the doorsteps but the issue of heavy vehicles trying to navigate Palace Gate Road and Crescent Road despite the ANPR camera and restrictions in place is one raised constantly. I have asked again officers if the ANPR camera is actually in use and follow-up on your suggestions to add signage and restrictions on the exit points below so that the there will be no access both ways:
- Dunsford Road/Crescent Rise,
- Dunsford Road/Wroxham Garden
- Dunford Road/Albert Road
Officers have now confirmed that : the camera located at Palace Gates Road is indeed working.Since July 2021 (when we moved to the new back-office system) to date this year a total of 986 penalty charge notices have been issued from this camera for weight restriction contraventions.[...] we are looking at introducing an enforcement camera at Dunford Road junction with Crescent Road for weight restriction contraventions at this location'.
Looking at the numbers if charge notices this is an average of almost 3 a day if we iclude the weekends....I will follow-up on this, trying also to get an implementation date, please get in touch if you have any comment.

Note that there is a 'Except for Access' sign at each entry to the area so all removal vans, scaffolding lorries etc are completely legitimate if they visit a house or business in the triangle area. That will reduce the total of valid charges.
Dear all - I have just been told that works for the installation of the camera at the Dunsford Road/Crescent Rise junction will start today. It may take up to two weeks to configure the camera but officers hope this can be done in a shorter period of time and will let me know when the camera goes live.
Ade : I was not aware of a camera outside 22 Crescent Road, and so this is why I did not ask about it. From the local police team I understand that this is a CCTV camera and is operational and controlled by Haringey CCTV. It will covers the small vicinity of CRESCENT ROAD j/w VICTORIA ROAD N22. Haringey CCTV controllers will monitor the location and pass on a log of any traffic offences to the MET team to follow up.
Richard Riddle : I have mentioned the temporary camera to the same officers working on the new ANPR one and ask them to find out more and see if there is any possibility to be re-instated on a permanent basis.
A camera was also installed outside 22 Crescent Road - why have the results of this not been disclosed? Crescent Road and the junctions with Victoria Road and Palace Gates Road are a complete traffic nightmare - 3 incidents of motorbikes racing along the streets and pavements, narrowly missing pedestrians were reported in just 1 week. The Alexandra police officer has been asking for a meeting with Danny Gayle for weeks but has been fobbed off to date with Haringey's ' ASB Enforcement' instead.
Another issue in Crescent Road is the pavement space outside the parade of shops. This has been broken and narrowed by parked cars and more recently, scaffolding for new mansion flats to be built on top of the parade. The measured space between the feet of the scaffolding poles is just 98.5cm. But the council sent a 'Licencing Officer' whose name they refused to disclose (apparently a Len Mitchell) who incorrectly measured the space as 1.20m and declared this to be a 'sufficient minimum width' for pedestrians. This is utterly insane, and contrary to all Traffic Management Guidance that pavement width should be a clear 2m to allow wheelchair users to pass each other comfortably. But the council has not reacted to appeals for removing the parked cars along the parade as a matter or urgency - at least as a temporary measure as long as the scaffolding is in place - to allow a bit more space for pedestrians and wheelchair users. This is an area with heavy pedestrian traffic who are constantly being forced to walk in the road - including children and disabled people.
Haringey did carry out some emergency repairs as the scaffolding had further broken the pavement and pushed up paving stones, leaving high edges. We as council tax payers have to pay for the damage caused by cars parked on pavements, and for private enterprises by landlords who damage pavements in the course of carrying out shoddy building work for massive profit.
I submitted an FOI request to Haringey many years ago regarding HGVs using the narrow section of Albert Rd. This is after we had petitioned for a camera to be installed temporarily. The number of PCNs was huge - obviously . I also asked what percentage were Veolia - the Haringey Contractor. They refused to answer that request for information.
It's clear that in the 10 years since I asked Haringey to monitor HGVs in Palace Gates, they have done nothing to alleviate the issue.
