You can of course always use the search box at the top of each page to search for a particular word or phrase. But this will not necessarily retrieve posts on broad topics, such as 'traffic'. Instead, you can click on the category 'traffic, roads, public transport' to display posts on these topics. Another example is Lost and Found. Categories are listed across the top of this (Forum) page (click on 'More' on the right to display them all), and down the left sidebar of the same page. You can see the category chosen for this post in its heading - 'About this website'.
How do posts get assigned to a category? When anyone posts something on the site (apart from Events, or Photos in the Gallery), there is a drop-down list of categories to choose from. Sometimes more than one category is appropriate – e.g. posts regarding the proposed Abolition of Alexandra ward could go in both campaigns and local democracy. Hold down the Ctrl key when choosing more than one category.
If we have not included a category that you think should be there, please let us know! Incidentally, it is a feature of community-run websites that you can customise them, which is not possible with such data-harvesting corporates as Facebook and Nextdoor ...
