If local politicians look at this forum please can someone explain to me why Alexandra Palace is allowed to lock roads without any level of consultation with residents. This venue is no longer a couple of times a year disruption,we are routinely disrupted with road closures and anti social behaviour.
This weekend the roads are once again closed ( earlier than their signs) and we could not get in or out. If you live on Bedford road, Dorset cottages, Terrick road you are trapped at the whim of the palace. I just cannot understand why they are allowed to freely close roads without speaking to any of the people who live there. We are not given reductions in council tax to facilitate this? I would like a local councillor to feedback. I have written so many complaints and receive a standard protocol response every time- we care, will consider you in the future etc etc

  • Hi Michelle,

Sorry to hear about the inconveniences caused by the recent road closures.

I have challenged the palace on this, and they've confirmed that the road closures were a result of the Red Bull event only, this event takes place bi-annually.

The event itself takes place across the East court, Pavilion, and Alexanra Palace way road - specifically the hill leading up to the Palace from the train station.

To ensure that said areas are set up and ready for the event, the build phase of the event has to take place first, whereby we load in and set up all the catering units, infrastructure, security and health and safety measures. This will see the use of large vehicles and machinery and so for safety reasons, it is deemed appropriate to put the closures in place.

While the above explanation from the Palace doesn't address the issue of lack of consultation with residents. There is a channel for residents to get involved and shape the way the Palace works especially with regards to how its activities and events impact local residents and the environment. The Alexandra Palace and Park Consultative Committee provides an opportunity for discussion between the Alexandra Palace and Park Board.

I recently helped to facilitie the invitation of a local resident to the most recent consultative committee, which the resident found most helpful. I'd like to see more residents get involved. So, I have now written to the Alexandra Triangle Residents Association about this and will be happy to facilitate their inclusion on the list of resident associations invited to the committee.

    Kind regards,

    AJ.
