There's a lovely piece in the Guardian today about a very successful library in a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos - described as a 'sanctuary of hope and healing':

Just over a year old, it has 2,500 books already, and the prime mover in its creation was local resident Ruth Miller. She now spends most of her time in Lesbos, coming back to the UK occasionally to source books for the library - particularly those in Turkish, Farsi and Arabic, for both adults and children (children's books are particularly welcome). Do get in touch if you have any to offer! She is in the UK at the moment, and will be giving some short talks telling the library story in the Alexandra Park neighbourhood - watch this space for more details.
She volunteers for the NGO Eurorelief, and if you would like to make a donation to the Library, you can do this through the Eurorelief website (for the Camp Library & Education fund):

And incidentally - the Alexandra Park Neighbours website and newsletter benefited greatly from her input when it was getting started - 11 years ago!
