At Haringey's Transport Forum last week, the rep from Network Rail gave what is hopefully more positive news about the construction of lifts at the station, due to start next January:
The project is now nearing completion of the ‘outline design’ stage and has developed its plans further in discussion with Thameslink, the Train Operator who manages the station. The Network Rail’s contractor is now finalising the schedule for the construction phase, with plans to start ‘enabling works’ (installation of hoarding on platforms, delivery of materials etc) in January 2026. Work is planned to progress throughout 2026, with the key window of opportunity to do the main construction work (lifting the new lift shafts and bridge connections into place) in November 2026, when the railway will be closed for an extended period for upgrade works along the line. Following this, it is expected that the final works will be complete, and new lifts open to passengers in Spring 2027.

Blimey - a long wait but good news as it's quite difficult lugging cases up and down those steps when the tube is unusable.
