On Sunday afternoon there was a little happy birthday gathering for the NHS's 72nd anniversary on the Palace Gates/Crescent Road triangle. Gordon Peters, who is chair of the Haringey Over 50s Forum (and lives up the road) talked a bit about the 1948 National Assistance Act - same age as the NHS - which created an obligation to provide housing and care for all who couldn't adequately provide for themselves, especially the old and people with disabilites: but though the intention to make these two sides of Health and Social Care fit together was there, a system which really marries the two up is still not properly available, as the dreadful effects of Covid in care homes has shown.
