Note for fire and stove users

We don't often send out emails, but with the stuff that's ended up in the media recently, we thought it necessary. Simply put, wood isn't being banned. The sale of WET wood is being restricted. Normal logs will still be available. House coal will not be sold from 2020, but smokeless coal will be. So your open fire and stove is still fine to use. For more details I will attach a link to our Facebook post clarifying this (please share the post with your friends - there is so much misinformation in the media) - for those without Facebook I will copy the text below. While you're on our Facebook page, we would appreciate a review if you're not in a hurry!!

Also worth bearing in mind is that figures supposedly suggesting 38% of PM2.5 comes from domestic wood burning appliances is categorically untrue. Defra have been open about the fact it's untrue, it just hasn't made it in to the media. Their study couldn't differentiate between wood particles from bonfires, biomass power stations such as Drax in Yorkshire which burns wood pellets, particles being blown from mainland Europe, especially France of which a fair proportion were. They have a new study being released in the coming months which will hopefully be more accurate.

  • Thanks for this useful info. from Josh Firkins the chimney sweep, Ed.

He has incidentally cleaned our chimney a couple of times in the past, and we found him very helpful.
