Hi all - I have finally managed to get some update on the drainage work and playground refurbishment. Many of you asked an udpate via email or on the doorsteps about the delayed spring start time of the works. After enquiries with the Park team I can confirm that the survey and preparatory work has been completed and the service has now a clear idea of what are the issues, what drains needs to go in place and where, and the works commissioned. Unfortunately there was too much backlog for the company to be able to start and at this point it has been felt that it was better to postpone the works to end of August / beginning of September rather than doing it during the summer when the Ground is enjoyed most. The drain work will also involve the main drain in Albert Road under the carriage, so hopefully this will also fix the flooding at the junction between The Avenue and the Library. This will be followed by a consultation for the refurbishment of the playground and open gym. I also have been told that some of the bins will be replaced by larger ones with double capacity.
Finally the Green Flag judging of O.R. Tambo Recreation Ground will take place on Friday 17 June, between 9.30 and 11am.

  • Dear all - I have finally good news to share on this and can confirm that drainage work on Oliver Tambo Rec will start next week:

    • On the main field, laying two trenches on the northern and eastern boundary of the sports pitches - expected to commence next week and to last a week (the blue line on the photo).
    • On the play area the week following that, expected to last two weeks (the green and yellow lines on the photo).

The timings are dependent on weather, and unfortunately the areas where works are taking place will be closed for the duration of the works. You will also remember that the refurbisment of the playground was put on hold until the drainage issue was resolved, so this means that the playground refurbishment can also go ahead. I have asked for a schedule of works and will post as soon as I hear more. Please do get in touch if you have any question.10863769282?profile=RESIZE_930x

    • Hi all, a further update from me on this.

I can confirm that the consultation on the refurbishment of the play area will start next week and will run until 5th of MarchThere are some initial designs for comment and local resident input. The consultation will be on commonplace, and in addition there will be four in-person engagement events in the park, at the Pavillion Sports & Cafe':

      Saturday 4th February 9:00 -12:00pm

      Friday 10th February 11:00 - 01:00pm

      Wednesday 22nd February 11:00 - 01:00pm

      Saturday 25th February 09:00-12:00 pm

There shold also be signs going up around the park next week. Hope you will be able to take part in the consultation and attend one of the events above. I have noticed there is only one planned on a weekend, as I imagine many of you will be working during the week I have asked for an additional weekend day. Please get in touch if you have any comment or query.

    • All - Haringey has agreed to more weekend events, so the engament event originally planned on Friday 24th Feb will now be held on Saturday 25th February  9:00 - 12:00

    • Another update on the refurbishment from me. Following the consultation on the play area and outdoor gym earlier this year, I've learned that residents supported a ‘natural’ approach, integrating the play area with the nature area, and designing both so they minimise any potential future flooding/waterlogging risks.

      The council now plans to:

      • Finalise the designs to reflect the consultation feedback, during May.
      • Undertake procurement action in June/July.
      • Commence works on site in Autumn 2023, over two phases, starting with the play and nature area, then the outdoor gym/trim trail area to follow later in the year.

Finally, The Friends of O.R. Tambo are having their first meeting of 2023 on Monday 15th May 7pm-8:30pm at the Pavilion. If any of you wants to get more involved with the park - planting, fundraising or something else this is an opportunity to attend and find out more or join the Friends committee ( see https://ortamborecreationgroundplay.commonplace.is/en-GB/news/frien...

    • Good afternoon all,

I have asked officers for an update on the consultation and start of refurbishement, I have received the consultation report and clarifications on the following:

      - The consultation feedback report has been analysed and will be shortly published on Commonplace.

      - The design is currently being finalised to reflect the consultation feedback and procurement will be undertaken in Autumn 2023, although the preparation work for this is being undertaken now.

       - The aim is still to have completed the works to the play area and nature area within the 2023/24 financial year, ie Spring 2024.

      - The outdoor gym phase of the project will be taken forward subject to additional budget being secured, most likely in the following financial year

      - The team successfully secured £30k external funding toward the project from the London Marathon Trust.

Please get in touch if you have any query, thank you!

    • A further update from me: the consultation report has been published and can be found here

Any comment or query please let me know, thank you!

    • Hello

Thanks for your work in keeping everyone updated on this.  Do you know any more about when the work will start?  The playground is continuing to deteriorate and the work can't come soon enough in that respect.  I also suspect, like us, other local parents will be keen to know when the playground will be closed, so they can plan what to do with their children during that time!

      Any updates gratefully received.

      Tom

    • Thank you!
