I was informed yesterday that, as part of 2026/27 Planned Carriageway Resurfacing Programme, Haringey Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on Vallance Road, as detailed below.

Work Description: Resurfacing
Work Location (Extent): Entire Length
Start Date: 30th June 2026
End Date: 02nd July 2026
Working Hours: Road Day Works 09:30 to 15:30 (3 days)
The works will be carried out under a road closure to minimise traffic congestion, reduce disruption in the road network, and ensure the safety of the operatives.
A traffic diversion will be in place, with clear signage installed to guide road users safely around the closure.
According to the council, Residents and businesses will be notified via the Works Notice Letter (Residents Letter) and Advance Warning Signs will be strategically placed on-site prior to the commencement of works.
While I have received a traffic management plan that doesn't address access for vulnerable residents (see attached), I'm mindful that the planned road closures will cause distress and uncertainty to residents, especially those with blue badge holders and other vulnerable people who need mobility access.
That is why I have written to the council requesting urgent response on the following:
- What arrangements are in place to guarantee resident access, particularly for blue badge holders and those with medical needs.
- Confirmation that essential journeys (including hospital transport) will not be impeded.
- Clear guidance on parking arrangements, including use of off-street parking
- Whether the road will be fully closed at all times, or if phased / managed access will be in place
- Why residents were not given adequate advance notice or consultation.
- What immediate steps will be taken to ensure clear communication to all affected residents.
- I have also asked for a dedicated contact person for residents who need access for medical reasons.
