Traffic Survey

In July Haringey Council placed some tube strips between Outram and Clyde Rd on Albert Road.

The strips counted vehicle volume, speed and class on that particular section of Albert Road (and did not include vehicles that used Harcourt and Clyde Rd to access Albert Road)

I have the results of the count if anyone in Albert Rd - or any other road - is interested.

  • Hi Annabel, the initiative is due to start in April. Though we are waiting for confirmation from the police that they have the speed guns. Once we have the speed guns the plan is to gather the names of all those interested in volunteering and then set a schedule with the police. Then we will have specific dates / times and we will ask for volunteers if they are free. Kevin and Tony from the Residents Association have been involved in the meetings with the police so we will work together to make a list of volunteers. Thanks for offering to volunteer.
  • Hi Grant, we have been discussing with the Police about setting up a Community Speed Watch in the area - using hand held speed guns provided by the police. We will need volunteers to help us run the project. I will post more details once we have a firm date.

    • Hi Richard. The difference here is that the BC seems to be committing to actual enforcement - fines and points - not just 'advising' criminal drivers to slow down a bit (as has been done in the past).

Interested to hear further detail on speed watch when you have it.

    • Hi Grant. I will let you know when we have dates for the arrival of the speed guns. The Police have decided to concentrate on Alexandra Park Road, Albert Road and Muswell Ave initially. We will need volunteers for Alexandra Park Road and Albert Road. There will always be an officer or PCO with the volunteers.

    • Hi Richard,

Alex King and I would like to volunteer for the speed gun checks in Alexandra Park Road - what do we do?

    • Ok, thanks. Oh dear, only 2 speed guns - I thought this idea of enforcing the speed limit was too good to be true!

    • This is great news in theory; thanks for everyone's efforts on our behalf! However, whilst I would like to volunteer for Albert Road, I'm concerned how the speed gun testing will be carried out. If stood with a uniformed police force member pointing a speed gun traffic would naturally slow, either from curiosity or fear of consequence, so might give a very skewed result. If could be done , say, from a front bay window, then that would be more effective
    • Unfortunately I don't imagine it can be done like that! When meeting with the police I suggested that uniform and hi-viz will have a deterrent effect without obtaining a true picture of what is actually happening on our roads regarding speeding. According to a member of the resident's association police checks on Albert Road today resulted in multiple tickets being issued and 1 car being confiscated. So even with uniform present people speed. As for the council their policy is - when someone dies or is seriously injured they will consider looking at the the issue. I actually have this in an email.
    • Yes that's the council response I received too; when an accident is officially reported then they will consider budget reallocation. Unbelievable. How much can it cost to do speed bumps that work? They have enough to put in new lampposts when the old ones were working fine!<br />
Either way, am happy to volunteer
