Watch repairs

Last week  in Muswell Hill I was told that my watch stopping on and off as I described was not a battery problem, so the inner workings must be going and the woman suggested a jeweller for a new watch.  But later in Wood Green, at the library, i noticed a tiny watch shop across the arcade and walked over.  The cheerful old gentleman there took the watch to the back, opened it, checked it over, returned and said the battery was indeed  fully charged -- but that it had not been snapped in correctly so the connection was loose.  All sorted. We had a chat and I offered him a small payment, which he said he wouldn't feel right in charging, but I said I wouldn't feel right not offering, and he accepted.  An old-world service.
