Work has started on the first phase of creating the new wetland. A number of swales have been dug in Section A (see map above) to catch the surface water and guide it through the woodland. This will prevent the surface water running across the paths and improve the usually boggy conditions. The contractors started at the top so they can guide the water downstream as they work their way through the sections. The long ditch opposite the Conservation Pond has also been enlarged. This is so that it can hold more water from the woodland. TCV volunteers will add leaky dams (made of branches) to slow the flow of water (and detritus) after heavy rain...[more]...
