The London Wildlife Trust has created a new wildlife haven in the East Reservoir at Stoke Newington. The reservoir was created by the New River Company nearly 200 years ago (fed by the New River), and has been closed to the public ever since - until the 1st of this month. This 'stunning wildlife oasis' consists of 11 hectares of reedbeds, wildlife meadows and hedgerows - with free admission, open 8-5pm (subject to seasonal variations), and the Coal House café provides breakfast, lunch, coffees/teas … The Trust are planning a wide variety of activities and events.
It is a 10 minute walk from Manor House station, and you can get buses 29 or 141 from Wood Green station. Even better, walk down the New River path from Hornsey Waterworks (at the bottom of Alexandra Park) – details on Map 5 of this Thames Water booklet.

I also didn't think you could walk this part of the River path, Annabel. it's not accessible near Wood Green, I don't think.
The river emerges from the Wood Green Tunnel at Hornsey reservoirs. The route is shown on the booklet - part of it is on roads - along the Ladder.
