‘BROOMFIELD SUMMER FESTIVAL’

DATES: 2 JUNE – 18 SEPT

VENUE: BROOMFIELD PARK

 website: www.fobp.events

The Friends of Broomfield Park are creating another summer to remember with a rich mix of events staged in the beautiful surroundings of the ‘Broomfield Bowl’. The programme runs from June to September and includes live music, open air theatre, family events, a food festival and much more.

Live music is a very popular part of the festival. Paul Dengle, producer behind the Livestockand Black Barn events at Forty Hall is organising a series of must-see acts from cover-bands Foo Fighterz, Reggae Matic, Vipers and Britpop Boys. Southgate’s St Harmonica’s Blues Club returns with its regular Sunday afternoon performances in August.

Broomfield Bowl has quickly built a reputation as a great venue for national touring theatre groups. The Three Inch Fools return to Broomfield Bowl with their quick costume and character changes,  plenty of humour, singing  beautifully harmonious songs and playing all manner of modern and traditional instruments. Founder James Hyde  says “Broomfield Park has become one of our favourite venues - we always get such a warm reception. We are really looking forward to our visits this year with our family event The Gunpowder Plot  and a new outdoor production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.”

Family entertainment is a big part of the programme with Awful Auntie, Wind in the Willowsand our local Chickenshed Theatre presenting a summer panto Cinderella in Boots and their ever-popular Tales from the Shed.

For a grown-up theatre goers, not-to-miss events include Bram Stoker’s Dracula, from the renowned Touring Shakespeare Company who bring their energy and accessibility to a brand new adaptation of this classic gothic horror tale which will make for an unforgettable evening of open air theatre.

Musical theatre also gets a turn with the award winning Illyria bringing another completely whacky Gilbert and Sullivan production. With sharp satire and glittering wit, The Pirates of Penzance is as fresh as ever and packed-full of memorable songs such as To be a Pirate King, Modern Major General and A Policeman's Lot is Not a Happy One.

Local performing arts school Centre Stage returns for outdoor performances from the current and former students. Principal Carole O’Shea says “last year we had our first outdoor events at Broomfield Bowl. Our families loved it and we are delighted to return this summer.”

Palmers Green food hero Clare Donovan and her Cooking Champions are runing  a delicious food festival reflecting the rich diversity of local food producers including  bakeries, restaurants, street food, fresh produce, craft beers, cocktails cokkery contests and live music adding to the fun.

The Broomfield Summer Festival is packed with new events and annual traditions such as Cogger’s and Bidall’s fun fairs and Zippos Circus. Lots to enjoy whatever your tastes. See the whole programme at  www.fobp.events.
