'Novella Fever' with Kiare Ladner
'I absolutely loved Novella Fever. Kiare has a great teaching strategy, always staying positive. I loved the way the first half of each class was teaching and the second half was feedback (with no talking back!) It was brilliant!' Cat, Novella Fever Student
Do you have a great idea for a book but perhaps find the prospect of writing a full length novel intimidating? Our evening novella course is perfect for you, taught by writer Kiare Ladner (BBC short Story, forthcoming novel, Picador). Details below.
Wednesday evenings, 6.45pm-9.15pm; dates May 15, 22 (half term), June 5, 12, 19, 26; cost £99; venue Writing Room
If the short story is like a photograph and the novel is like a film, the novella is like a fever.
In six weeks, we will aim to start (or finish) drafting a novella. What you work on may be only slightly longer than a short story or slightly shorter than a novel. You may have an idea to explore, or a short story that’s growing, or something resembling a novel in progress. On the course, we will look at what gives this particular form its power. We will discuss the general shape a story of this length this may take. In intensive weekly sessions we will workshop both writing and story ideas. All levels welcome.
'Inspire Your Writing' with novelist Sonia Lambert
Are you stuck in a rut with your writing? Need some inspiring exercises to shake up your creativity? Then this is the class for you.
"Sonia is an engaged, encouraging, and enthusiastic teacher, who clearly loves the subject and shared practical and thought-provoking techniques and exercises to apply to creative writing more widely." Vicky Walker
Thursday mornings, 10.30am to 1pm; dates May 16, 23 (half term), June 6, 13, 20, 27; cost £99; venue Writing Room
This course is for writers at any level who wish to generate lots of new ideas and material. We will use a variety of different creative writing exercises and prompts to get you working, in a friendly and supportive environment. We will set out from a new starting point each week including themes such as food, journeys, people, and experiment with different techniques and ways into prose writing.
