Cross Safe N10 is a campaign group comprising residents who use the junctions of Colney Hatch Lane with Pages Lane and Alexandra Park Road. The group has been campaigning for over a year to make these junctions safer for pedestrians and other road users. As a result of the group's campaigning Haringey Council and Transport for London have carried out detailed reviews of the junction. At a meeting on Tuesday 24th February Haringey Council and Transport for London gave the go ahead for safety improvements to be made. See link for Haringey Council's announcement: http://www.haringey.gov.uk/news/green-light-new-crossings
Haringey Council has worked in partnership with TfL to respond to the Cross Safe N10 campaign group's priorities at the junction and as a result plans to:
- Install a new set of light-controlled crossings at Alexandra Park Road/Colney Hatch Lane - this would replace the crossings on Colney Hatch Lane on the Northbound side where there is the dangerous 2nd traffic light often missed by drivers
- Remove or relocate the Alexandra Park Road traffic island, allowing more space for large vehicles turning left and making the road safer to cross
- Install a new zebra crossing in Pages Lane near to the junction of Colney Hatch Lane - involving the removal of the traffic lights at this junction
- install a traffic island near to Muswell Avenue (tbc)
- Undertake further safety measures as outlined in the attached announcement
The next step in the process is for Haringey Council to draw up detailed plans and put them out for public consultation. We will continue to work closely with Haringey Council and Transport for London and will keep you informed of progress and timings. Thanks to any of our neighbours who signed our petition last January or took part in our road traffic survey last December. We had over 650 signatures on the petition and over 140 respondees to our survey and lots of feedback about personal experiences of the dangers and witnessing near misses. A quick update from Cross Safe N10 Campaign Group: Haringey Council has confirmed that work will start in earnest on the Colney Hatch Lane/Pages Lane/Alexandra Park Road junction improvements on Tuesday 2nd February 2016.
There is some work currently underway on improving bus stop paving and preparing for the works on the 2nd.
There are no specifics about how the roadworks will be managed by Haringey Council and TfL as yet but it is likely that there will be disruption whilst the work is carried out. Patience may be required whilst the roadworks are underway, but we know you will support us in looking forward to the safer junctions we have lobbied hard for.
Thanks so much for posting the update Susie. If we get any more details on the specifics of the estimated duration of the roadworks etc we will post on here.
Yes please - that would be great.
