Foxes

Hi all, I know many people think they are cute, especially the cubs, but this is an appeal to anyone in the Thirlmere Road, Grosvenor Road, Kendlemere Close area - please please please DO NOT FEED THEM. They are becoming a huge nuisance, bringing thrown out food and bones into gardens, which will encourage rats. They are digging up gardens, leaving messes and terrrorising the local cats. Feeding wild animals creates an unhealthy dependence on humans. Last year we had one starting to come in through our open garden door one evening. Many thanks

  • Also, please do not leave any bird food or organic feed close to the ground. And secure the lid of your Council recycling bin if you use it for food waste - please!

Foxes coming both from the park and the railway embankment  have become an intolerable nuisance in our garden which is built into the hill and we get woken up by the crushing sound of pots tumbling down the steps as foxes jump atop them, hunting for worms perhaps.

For freshly dug and planted beds - we cover them with chicken mesh wire secured down with tent pegs and bricks. But you must remember to take it off once the soil settles but before the plants grow or you'll tear the plants in the process. You can use smaller bits of mesh wire around the plants but that means a lot of pegging and a devil of a job of removing it.

  • I got home yesterday evening to find some of my front garden semi dug-up, plus evidence of digging in one or two pot plants. So I guess that must be daytime fox activity.
