Let us introduce ourselves. We are a group of parents in Haringey alarmed at cuts to the funding of our local schools. We are setting up a parent-led community based campaign calling for fair and sustainable funding for all schools.
Funding for all schools is set to reduce by around 8 per cent over the next 3 years according to the National Audit Office - as per pupil funding fails to keep pace with inflation.
On top of this, the government's new National Funding Formula is set to take another 3 per cent away from schools in Haringey, as money is redistributed from schools in London (and other cities) to under-funded schools elsewhere.
We're all for fair funding across the country, but taking money from London schools to fund others while the whole pot is shrinking is doing no-one any favours. Teaching unions estimate that over 90 per cent of schools will lose out overall.
All the great work that London schools have achieved over recent years could start to come undone when this funding is withdrawn.
We are launching our parent-led grassroots campaign at 8pm on Tuesday 17 January at Rhodes Avenue Primary School, Rhodes Avenue, London N22 7UT.
Please come along and find out what's going on and how we can campaign as a community against this.
Catherine West MP will be speaking, so will Claire Kober the leader of LB Haringey and Kevin Courtney, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers. As well as parents from our Fair Funding for All Schools campaign.
You can follow us on Facebook (Fair Funding for All Schools) or Twitter at @HaringeyParents
Many thanks for your support.
