I recently got the email (below) from Alexandra Ward councillor Dave Beacham and thought I'd share it here:
Do you know a local group, charity or business that would be a worthy recipient of a local grant?
Your local Liberal Democrat councillors are seeking bids for a council fund called a ward budget. The money is available to local organisations, to improve the wellbeing of the local community, environment or economy.
The application for the grant must be:
· for the local ward area (not the whole borough)
· for one-off expenditure with no expectation of future funding
· for a minimum of £1,000, for applications from external organisations (the whole fund is £10,000)
· from an organisation with a constitution or from a small group or individual that has a sponsor that is a constituted local organisation that is willing to administer the funds on their behalf
· agreed by all the local ward councillors
You can see full details of all the requirements and download an application form here.
An example of an acceptable application would be a bid by a local community group for seeds, plants and tools, to plant a community garden.
If you, or a local group you know, would like to bid for the grant, or have any questions about the process, please contact me:

Kind regards,
Dave Beacham

Yes, these are the new ward budgets brought in last year, which I think are a very good idea. All three ward councillors have to identify and agree how the money is spent, so lots of suggestions will be useful!
Thank you - that's helpful to know.
