What do people think about the Green Guru shop opening on Alexandra Park Road? Several people I've spoken to have been really positive about this new addition to the local high street, citing its fresh fruit and veg as a particular plus. Others have been less happy, describing it as an aggressive Starbucks-style move onto Owens' territory.

  • Seems a shame to have opened a shop that is definitely a rival to Owens in terms of quite a lot of products - they have chosen to stock same brands and fractionally undercut on price. Owens have worked very hard to get their wonderful business going and really care about the provenance of their food. Anyway I prefer the friendliness of Owens and their deli is fantastic so won't be shopping at green guru. When Owens were due to open they visited the other shops to reassure them they wouldn't be competing. I like that attitude rather than GG staff skulking around in Owens to see what they're selling.
    • The Green Guru, sell a lot of different things, including a good selection of alternative medicines. They are very friendly, and helpful.
      And yes, I love Owens.
It's the same as the gift shop, opening next to Fringe. Some things similar, some things different.
  • Not all fruit and veg are the same! Owens' are all organic, and on the whole they try to be seasonal.

    • I agree, but the Green Guru state quite clearly the fruit and veg that are organic, and those that are not.
  • The shop seems to have its own focus on vegetarian and health products. I've got a few things there that previously I had to go quite a long way away to buy, so it's been convenient for me. Just about every small shop sells vegetables of one sort or another, outside of majoe shopping centres, so overlapping there is pretty much what you'd expect I suppose.

  • I think the green guru shop is a great addition to the parade. Having spoken the the owner, it is their intention to be different to Owens, not to compete. Staff are really friendly and helpful.I will be shopping at both shops.
