Haringey Council announces new logo

Last week Haringey ditched its 1960s municipal logo in favour of this new one. What do you think? I'm afraid this image isn't great but you get the idea..

I absolutely hate it, but for the reasons different from any I have yet heard. It is not that dissimilar to ultra-right and ultra-left graffiti one could find in poorer areas areas of industrial cities in Europe - the angular font, THAT shade of red... My first reaction is a shiver down my spine, before I remember I am in the most diverse borough of the most diverse city... The designer must have been someone young who can't have ventured beyond tourist areas on their travels.

Could they not at least tone down the colour to a softer shade (like Labour rose perhaps)? To me this shade of red makes the jerky lines of the font aggressive rather than zany. But, maybe it's just me.

The logo – apart from the totally incompatible LONDON, and the weird optical art in the background – is engaging in its way. If Matisse had lived here in his old age, he might well have designed it like this, using collage of course. Above all, it is vastly preferable to the ghastly spikes we had before.

Is it meant to be jokey? I think they should have spent the cost of the consultancy fees on the many things that really do need money in this borough.

No huge thoughts on this, but I am worried that it might look dated soon and have to be redone.
