The aim of London National Park City is to help make London greener, healthier and wilder.

With London National Park City opening on July 22nd, it would be great to have a couple of very local 'opening ceremonies' in our own neighbourhoods. Perhaps we could tie them in with existing activities, such as Friends of Ally Pally Station's monthly gardening party, or the Palace Gates gardening group (I saw them putting up hanging baskets on the Triangle yesterday). From the London National Park City website I noticed there are 2 mini opening ceremonies planned in N11, one in N2, N4 and N17 but none so far in N10 and N22.

Here's what they say on their website:

Will you help us to launch the London National Park City?

In the spirit of the National Park City, we don’t want to just have one single and exclusive opening ceremony. Instead, we’re inviting anyone to organise a mini opening ceremony. We’re hoping there will be 100 or more across London. You could:

  • open a tiny nature reserve in your garden
  • take some friends on a walk
  • organise a game of hide and seek
  • start a project to make a street greener
  • go for a swing
  • make some outdoor art
  • do a performance
  • go kayaking on the Thames, or
  • do something else that is inspired by the National Park City.
