Parking Questionaire

Just a reminder about the councils questionaire. It is on the back of the sheet.

You have about 10 days to retreive it from the recycling bin, complete and return (if not already done).

There is currently a petition going around for a one-way system for Crescent Road. We had had one way system (for Crescent Road and Palace Gates Road, lower part of Alexandra park Rd) proposal rejected 19 years ago precisely because it would have increased the speed, the free flow and, therefore, the volume of traffic through those roads and caused a spill over into Victoria and the roads feeding off ( which is now happening under pressure from rat runs). I wonder if the residents who sign the petition believing it would cut down the road rage incidents have thought of the extra traffic speed/volume it would cause.

Please be very careful what you put as your answer for Q9. I wasn't sure what 'improve traffic flow' meant in the context of residential streets so I phoned the highways department this afternoon. The person I spoke to confirmed improve traffic flow means moving more traffic through our neighbourhood at faster speeds. He suggested this could be achieved by moving car parking onto the pavement.

If you agree that there is already too much traffic driving through our neighbourhood, it already goes too fast and the last thing we want is a further degradation of the walking environment by more cars on the pavement, please reflect this in your answer to Q9.

Very disappointing that the council are not instead proposing to reduce traffic, bringing a reduction in road danger, reduced pollution and a more people friendly street environment. We definitely don't need to make this area a more attractive shortcut for people driving through.

  I replied to Q9 or the one after asking for the 20mph speed limit to be enforced, because at present it is ignored.

  The reply you received corresponds with replies I have received from Traffic Engineers. The impression I have is that Haringey will not take any measures that will slow down or inconvenience through traffic.

Thanks, yes I've got it. It's asking us whether we are in favour of extending the CPZ. I think the deadline is around 7th July to get it back to the council. It's on my list of things to do today, infact.
