The big (and depressing) news on Pinkham Way is that Haringey Council has ignored all the evidence and put the site forward for inclusion in the new North London Waste Plan (NLWP). This leaves it highly vulnerable to being used for a waste plant of some type.

FUNDS URGENTLY NEEDED

The public consultation for the new draft of the NLWP is ongoing, and will require a robust response. We are incredibly lucky to have talented local experts willing to put in huge amounts of unpaid voluntary work into fighting to save the site. As before, however, their analysis must be finished in conjunction with a top-class planning professional before being submitted.

And then, crucially, a consultant will have to lead the Pinkham Way Alliance representation at the public examination of Haringey’s ‘Site Allocations’ in February, which will determine the future planning status of the site.

It’s unfortunately true that a submission from respected consultants will carry more weight than the same submission from a residents’ group, no matter however professional it may be.

Bottom line? The Pinkham Way Alliance must raise £15,000 to cover these consultancy fees. And the same again for the North London Waste Plan next year. Please help protect our local nature conservation site by making a donation here.

  • Over the summer, the North London Waste Authority has been running a public consultation on the draft North London Waste Plan. The Pinkham Way Alliance has been through this vast document with a fine tooth comb and will shortly ask supporters to endorse their findings.  The Alliance has also launched a fundraising appeal to help it pay for professional planning support - essential if we are to finally save this wonderful site from destruction.

    • A fantastic 1,087 of us endorsed the Pinkham Way Alliance's response to the consultation on the North London Waste Plan. This is a great result and shows how many of us care what happens to our green open space. The fundraising campaign continues, and over the next few weeks quite a few of us will be tramping the pavements delivering leaflets to local residents.
