Refugees Welcome Haringey are calling on Cllr Claire Kober, leader of Haringey Council, to ensure the resettlement of four Syrian refugee families in the borough by Christmas 2016 via the Vulnerable Person Resettlement (VPR) scheme. The scheme is funded by central Government. Refugees will be living in private rented accommodation, not social housing, and will be entitled to work and claim benefits.

Good news from Lucy and Refugees Welcome Haringey:
Today we’ve had confirmation that Haringey Council will be resettling ten Syrian refugee families in the borough via the Vulnerable Person Resettlement scheme!
This is a fantastic development which could not have happened without your support – thanks to everyone who has signed and shared the petition, emailed their local councillor, and tweeted their support for the campaign!
However, so far no timescale has been announced for when the refugee families will arrive, so it’s crucial that we keep up the pressure and continue our campaign.
Make sure your voice continues to be heard loud and clear:
Residents of Haringey please contact your local councillors today to thank them for their role in moving this forward – and to ask them exactly when the refugee families will start to arrive in Haringey.
There’s still time for 4 families to arrive before Christmas!

Only a few more days before this petition must be handed in to Haringey Council! 2,200 signatures are needed in order to trigger a debate in a Full Council Meeting. Resettlements have been started by 11 other London boroughs, and is government funded.
