My family are looking for discarded/ offcuts/ remnants of material/ curtains/ cushion covers, in earthy colours in brocade/ velvet or corduroy in order to make a patchwork dressing gown like the one worn by Bilbo Baggins.

Even if you haven't got any, do you know of any local jumble sales this Bank Holiday where we might get some remnants or cut something up?

  • I have a pair of really thick and heavy curtains you can have if you like. I don't know exactly what material they are made of but I think they wuld be suitable for your project. I will take them to the recycling centre otherwise.

    • Thank you very much Ana.  We seem to have enough material - hard to say precisely, but I suggest you do take it to the recycling centre.

  • I have a modest collection of small pieces (up to a foot or two across) of all sorts of materials – blue and black denim, curtain and furniture covering materials, corduroy bits probably…

    • Thank you very much David.  We seem to have enough material now - several donations

  • What a great project. I don't know of any jumble sales this bank holiday but suspect that quite a few charity shops will be open (eg Muswell Hill). You might be able to find a couple of curtains in the colours you are looking for. Or some inexpensive garments that can be cut up.
