I know this is a long shot ... Most of our old washing machine (about 15 years old!) is still working - it will rinse, spin and do a cold wash. When we try to run a hot wash, however, its heater shortcuts the whole house! Since it has a hot fill (being very old ...), we don't strictly speaking need the heater at all. Does anyone know someone who could either isolate the heater, or even make it work - e.g. if the problem was simply a loose connection?

  • I highly recommend Astrofix.  http://www.astrofix.co.uk/contact-us/

He came to my house on time, quickly found the problem with my dishwasher (got the circuit board and showed me exactly which wire was the problem!).  Said he could fix it if I wished if he ordered the part (apparently he was hoping it could be soldered but no luck) but given the part was so expensive suggested I might want to consider buying a new one.  Charged me less than quoted as well.

  • JSG Electrical on 18 Middle Lane N8 are brilliant for all kinds of white goods. They've been keeping my washing machine, dishwasher and vacuum cleaner going for years. 020 8340 6048.

    • That's great - thanks so much to both of you!  I didn't realise there were still some straightforward repairmen out there for white goods.
