Karamel Music Festival 2016: Kevin Fitzsimmons Quartet ft. Leon Greening - Wed 17th Augist 2016

Karamel Music Festival - Celebrating Musical Diversity, tonight we bring you Kevin Fitzsimmons Quartet ft Leon Greening

Wednesday 17th August 2016

Kevin Fitzsimmons – vocals
Leon Greening – keys
Matt Fishwick – drums
Adam King – bass

Long a fan of Mark Murphy and Mel Tormé, London-born Kevin Fitzsimmons is one of most individual male jazz voices to emerge on the UK jazz scene in recent times and already forging a reputation as a charismatic presence and lyricist/songwriter of quality. His current album was released to critical acclaim and he has sold-out with his band at numerous venues around the UK including many times at Ronnie Scott’s, has several jazz festival appearances under his belt, a concert aired on Jazz FM and has sang at Birdland Jazz Club, NYC.

His distinctive vocals have featured in several TV and radio commercials in UK/Europe and, running alongside his career on the jazz scene, he also fronts a touring Big Band concert about Sinatra’s golden period on the Capitol label.

Fitzsimmons’ unstoppably swinging band – described by Jazzwise as “the cream of UK straight-ahead jazz musicians” – keep the audience on the edge of their seats: award-winning pianist Leon Greening (headliner at festivals including Ronnie Scott’s International Piano Trio Festival – “Catch him when you can” says Jazz Journal International); upcoming bassist Adam King (2015 ‘Young Jazz Musician Of The Year’) and respected jazz drummer Matt Fishwick(“Outstanding” – Jazzwise).
Expect a vibrant programme full of taste and verve, featuring sassy new versions of standards by the likes of Mercer, Jobim, Ellington, Legrand, Porter, alongside new jazz arrangements of classic pop/soul recordings – including The Beatles, Sam Cooke, Billy Preston, Paul Weller – and one or two original compositions (including songs co-written by Fitzsimmons with Jools Holland and UK sax great, Derek Nash) all in the space of a relentlessly entertaining set.

“Lovers of jazz vocal mainstream have another star to follow” (Jazzwise)
“Unique interpretations, superb presence, a brilliant gig” (Moreopinions’ Blog at Jazznights)
“Talent, originality, has that rare vocal skill of total control of all he does”(Grapevine Magazine)
“A thoroughbred jazz singer” (Marlbank)
