zerOclassikal and Collage Arts present the world premiere of AKRODHA, a piece for bansuri (bamboo flute) and dilruba (bowed sitar) composed by Kiran Sodhi-Kalsi-Ghatoure, that blends analog and digital sounds to create an otherworldly experience.

Akrodha (अक्रोध)—meaning "freedom from anger"—draws inspiration from Kiran’s experiences with EMDR therapy and non-Western healing practices. This composition unfolds in a dream-like landscape of layered, looping soundscapes, exploring the tension between conflicting multiplicity and harmonious unity — both within ourselves and in communication with those around us. As the music progresses, heavy emotions are unearthed and transformed, leading the overall mood to lightness and liberation. Kiran SKG will be performing with bansuri (bamboo flute), dilruba (bowed sitar) and a digital loop station, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Joe Steele who will be performing with synth keyboard, melodica and western concert flute.

A zerOclassikal EXTRAPOLATE commission. EXTRAPOLATE is new work that originates from the South Asian Classical structure and progresses it further in ways that sometimes challenges its conventional structure or enhances it beyond present perceptions. Whether it explores tonal material or redefines the use of taal or merely steps out of conventions, EXTRAPOLATE will seek to listen to South Asian Classical music in a way it had never been thought of before.

The second half: FREE FLOW CLASSIKAL will feature renowned composer Jonathan Mayer on sitar, accompanied by Karamel’s jazz regulars Paul Clarvis on tabla, John Parricelli on guitar and Jazz trumpeter Henry Lowther.

Free Flow Classikal is a new border dwelling concept that explores free improvisation across music genres perspective-ed from south Asian classical form - in development at Karamel, home of zerOclassikal, and one of north London’s premiere jazz venues.
