Firebrand! Firebrand stands in some people's minds for blazing a trail, burning down the house - and dancing on the tiles of roofs. You may have heard the phrase "they're real firebrands!", involving both destructive and creative powers, destroying what's old, burning with what's new. We stand for new voices, voices in the margins, voices of the people, community based and justice minded.

We are delighted to be hosting our first ticketed event at the brilliant vegan venue, Karamel Club in Wood Green. This will be a specially curated event consisting of headline performers, open mic, food & drink, networking opportunities, an intentional ritual and a mystery prize.

There will be six headline performers: Shohid Rahman, Muzibur Rahman, Liba Ravindran, Ms Defiance, Soulful Si and Kabbo Hue Qua

find out more about us here: https://linksta.cc/@firebrandpoets

Muzibur Rahman: I'm a trained physicist moonlighting as an artist and poet. I've been writing poems for about five years and am currently writing a play based in ancient Athens. My poems tend to be on personal, political and philosophical themes. I call them the three Ps. And although physics starts with a p, I can promise you there is no physics in my poetry.

Liba Ravindran: Liba Ravindran (he/they) is a spoken word poet, community organiser and social justice activist from Sri Lankan Tamil heritage, born in Norway and presently living in Southgate, North London. Liba has been using his poetry for grassroots change as a community activist and involved in the local poetry/spoken word scene in London through readings at various venues.

Shohid Rahman: Shohidur Rahman is or tries to be a poet and writer of prose, based in North London, though he is originally from Leeds (and Bangladesh). He has written poems, short stories and pieces for theatre, and been published in various places, such as 'Riptide Journal' and 'The Guardian Weekend'.

Ms Defiance - Nina Simone meets Bertolt Brecht. A unique voice in the world of music and spoken word, Ms Defiance blends the soulful, protest-driven spirit of Nina Simone with the political edge of Bertolt Brecht. Winner of the prestigious Bread and Roses Award for Songwriting and Spoken Word (Global Solidarity), and a semi-finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest , Ms Defiance has captured attention with powerful performances that challenge the status quo. Featured on BBC and in The Guardian , her work seamlessly merges lyrical storytelling with a call to action, creating art that resonates with both heart and mind.

Soulful Si ~ Decolonial Educator, Youth Mentor, Social Justice Activist, Grief Workshop Facilitator, Music-Lover & Writer 🪷

Kabbo Hue Qua: “is a meta-cosmic Indigenous, genetically diverse Earth being, an Artivist Storyteller, telling ancient stories long remembered, some long forgotten, other’s re-Membered through living experience of being, mirroring our godlike potential and commitment to impact upon All, sometimes it hurts, other times poetic, to learn inner-true healing, through evolving stories, from the one we’re living, to the one’s we remember to tell, through the joy, through the pain and All the hues in-between…

KaHue is an Artivist Storyteller, Poet, Spoken Word Artivist, Invocation and Self Enhancement Facilitator, Writer, Cultural Ambassador and Cultural Cohesion Consultant with a deep desire to revive & explore the relevance of culture within the cultural metropolis that is Bristol.
