Local Authority is an exciting instrumental group that came into being by chance when a one-off live improvised session came to the attention of Love Supreme Festival, which earned them a nomination by Jazz FM to open the festival.

Local Authority is led by Ed Riches who has been guitarist of choice for Grammy-winner Bilal's 'Love Surreal' & 'In Another Life' world tours, Miguel Atwood Ferguson's 'Suite for Ma Dukes' Orchestra, DJ Jazzy Jeff's 'Playlist Sessions', Ayanna Witter-Johnson's 'Black Panther' ensemble and Zara McFarlane's 'If You Knew Her' promo broadcasts. He has also been an integral soloist and accompanist for Marsha Ambrosius, Ntjam Rosie, Mica Paris, N'Dambi, Beth Rowley, Jacqui Dankworth, Nailah Porter, Omar, the London Horns and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The project usually operates as a quartet featuring a revolving cast of incredible musicians: Joe Webb (keys), Dian Gasper (Keys), Ben Burrell (keys), Oscar Stieler (Keys), Lawrence Insula (bass), Karl Rasheed Abel (bass), Amadu Koroma (bass), Nathan Bossoh (bass) and Pete Hill (Drums), Sam Awotayo (Drums), Eddie Hick (Drums), Andrew McLean (Drums).

The sound is vintage and current, utilising modern technology but also conjuring up the soulful vibes of the open air festivals of the 60s & 70s. A striking mixture of soul-jazz, country-blues, gospel & hip hop, with an edgy but accessible vibe, the music is raw, rootsy & down to earth.
