Part of the EFG London Jazz Festival #wearejazz

Henry Lowther’s Still Waters perform some of the music from their well-received and popular recent CD, Can’t Believe, Won’t Believe.

Henry Lowther’s Still Waters was born out a long association and friendship, going back forty years, between Henry and bassist Dave Green who have both been described by many critics and reviewers as “National Treasures”. They both felt that the time had arrived to play the music of their choice, together with some of the finest jazz musicians working in Britain today. As a result Still Waters is now one of the most accomplished, tightly ensembled and creative bands around. Although a classic quintet of two front line and rhythm, Still Waters plays radical and original music, ranging from gentle, quietly pastoral and melodic music, reflecting the band’s name, through to dynamic free improvisation.

Band: Henry Lowther - trumpet and flugelhorn, Pete Hurt - tenor saxophone, Barry Green - piano, Dave Green - bass, Paul Clarvis - drums

Still Waters appearance at the Karamel is following its highly successful Arts Council supported UK tour and at the Karamel, the band will be performing some of the music from their well-received and popular recent CD, Can’t Believe, Won’t Believe.

"Its beautiful, melodic compositions, superb collective and individual playing and pristine production values combine to make it a British jazz classic." the Jazz Mann.

Born in Leicester, trumpeter, violinist and composer Henry Lowther is one of the great unsung heroes of British music. In his childhood he played cornet with Salvation Army and colliery bands while also learning classical violin at the behest of his mother. On leaving school Lowther moved to London to study classical violin at the Royal Academy of Music but soon abandoned this to embrace the vibrant jazz and rock scene of the capital with the trumpet now his principal instrument. The prolific Lowther worked with anybody and everybody including Manfred Mann, John Mayall and Cream bassist Jack Bruce. Lowther has been a professional musician for over fifty years and it’s practically impossible to list all of his achievements.

Doors open 7pm, music from 8pm.
